But cruising isn’t a one-size-!ts-all holiday, and it doesn’t have to cost a small fortune or take up too much time. Here are some suggestions for every budget. Specialty Cruising A specialty cruise can be a$ordable or a splurge, with a wide range of options from a short Melbourne Cup cruise from Brisbane or Sydney with P&O to a longer adventure cruise in Norway to see the famed north- ern lights. "ere are also opportunities to explore an exotic destination with special guest speakers, from politicians to stage stars and screen stars. "e cruise departs from Ushuaia and cruises the Drake Passage, the South Shetland Islands, and the stunning Antarctic Peninsula, with the legends giving talks about their lifetime achievements and discovering the wonders of Antarctica. Local Cruising One way to cruise economically and for longer is to stick to your own backyard. Dur- ing the summer, cruise ships depart from most major Australian capitals every week, with one-way and return cruises saving you money on airfares and pre or post-cruise accommodation. If you’re short on time, one option is taking one of Carnival’s Geta- way cruises to nowhere, a weekend themed cruise with P&O or Royal Caribbean, or a short-break cruise of three-to-!ve nights with Princess Cruises or Celebrity Cruises. Big-Ship Cruising A big ship is ideal if you love to keep busy and entertained on a cruise. "ese stylish small-to- mid-sized ships usually have open-seating dining and alternative dining venues at no extra charge or for a nominal fee, and some cruise lines, including Oceania Cruises, Aza- mara Cruises and Viking Cruises, o$er addi- tional perks including complimentary shut- tles in port and bottled water. New ships in this category include Azamara Onward , Vi- king Mars and Viking Neptune , launched in 2022, and Viking Saturn and Oceania Vista , launching this year. Ultra Luxury True !ve-star ships come with larg- er-than-normal accommodations with private butlers, all-inclusive fares covering your daily latté, alcohol and port tours, and more. Cruise on Regent’s new Seven Seas Splendor and every stateroom is a suite with a private balcony. Hit the high seas on Sea- bourn Ovation and you’ll be dining on cui- sine inspired by Michelin-starred American chef and restaurateur, "omas Keller. New to the ultra-luxury lineup this year is Silversea Cruises’ Silver Nova, debuting in August. "e world’s !rst low-emissions cruise ship will carry 728 guests in all-suite accommoda- tions with private balconies and has a lineup of features including eight restaurants.
